Setup Guide

Get Harbor Privacy
running everywhere.

Your personal DNS address works on every device. Choose your platform below and follow the steps.

Jump to your device
iPhone & iPad → Android → Mac → Windows → Chrome & Edge → Home Router → How to Remove →
IPHONE & IPAD

iPhone & iPad Setup

The easiest way is to download your personal iOS profile. It configures everything automatically.

01
Log into your Dashboard and tap Download iOS Profile
02
When prompted, tap Allow to download the profile
03
Go to Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
04
Tap Harbor Privacy DNS → tap Install → enter your passcode
05
Tap Install again to confirm — done
Note: You may see "Unsigned" during install. This is normal for independent services. The profile only changes your DNS settings and nothing else. You can review it anytime in Settings.
Go to Dashboard →

ANDROID

Android Setup

Android uses a different setup method. We recommend the free Intra app by Google for the best experience.

01
Install Intra from the Google Play Store — it's free, made by Google Jigsaw
02
Open Intra and tap the settings gear in the top right
03
Tap DNS over HTTPS server → select Custom server URL
04
Paste your personal DNS address from your Dashboard and tap OK
05
Tap the power button in Intra to enable — done
Your personal DNS address is found in your Dashboard under "Your Private DNS Address". It looks like: https://doh.harborprivacy.com/dns-query/YOUR-ID
Get Intra on Google Play → Get Your DNS Address →

MAC

Mac Setup

Mac uses the same profile as iPhone and iPad — one download configures encrypted DNS automatically.

01
Log into your Dashboard and click Download iOS Profile — it works on Mac too
02
Open the downloaded .mobileconfig file — it opens System Settings automatically
03
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Profiles
04
Click Harbor Privacy DNS → click Install → enter your Mac password
05
Click Install again to confirm — done
Note: Requires macOS Big Sur (11) or later. The profile only changes your DNS settings and nothing else. Review or remove it anytime under Profiles.
Go to Dashboard →

WINDOWS

Windows Setup

Windows doesn't have a one-click profile like iOS/Mac. The simplest path is turning on Secure DNS in your browser — see Chrome & Edge below, it takes under a minute.

01
Get your personal DNS address from your Dashboard — it looks like https://doh.harborprivacy.com/dns-query/YOUR-ID
02
Follow the Chrome & Edge steps below and paste it into Secure DNS — this protects everything in that browser
Advanced — system-wide DoH (Windows 10 May 2020 Update or later, or Windows 11): This covers every app on the PC, not just the browser. Open PowerShell as Administrator and run:
Add-DnsClientDohServerAddress -ServerAddress 129.80.154.105 -DohTemplate "https://doh.harborprivacy.com/dns-query/YOUR-ID" -AllowFallbackToUdp $False -AutoUpgrade $True
Set-DnsClientServerAddress -InterfaceAlias "Wi-Fi" -ServerAddresses 129.80.154.105
Replace YOUR-ID with the ID from your Dashboard, and Wi-Fi with your adapter name (run Get-NetAdapter to check).

CHROME & EDGE

Chrome & Edge Setup

Chrome and Edge have their own "Secure DNS" setting that can silently override the DNS you just set up on your Mac, Windows, or router — ads and trackers slip back through in that browser only. Point it at Harbor Privacy directly to keep it consistent, or turn it off so the browser defers to your device/router setting.

01
Open Settings — Chrome: go to chrome://settings/security. Edge: go to edge://settings/privacy
02
Find Use secure DNS (Chrome, under Security) or Use secure DNS to specify how to look up the network address for websites (Edge, under Security)
03
Select With → Custom (Chrome) or Choose a service provider → Custom (Edge)
04
Paste your personal DNS address from your Dashboard
05
Press Enter/close settings — done
Your personal DNS address is found in your Dashboard under "Your Private DNS Address". It looks like: https://doh.harborprivacy.com/dns-query/YOUR-ID

HOME ROUTER

Home Router Setup

Setting Harbor Privacy on your router protects every device automatically — no setup needed on each device. Requires a router that supports Private DNS (DoT) — see compatibility note below.

01
Open your browser and go to your router admin page — usually 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1
02
Log in with your router credentials (on the sticker on your router)
03
Find Private DNS or DNS over TLS settings — usually under Advanced or WAN settings
04
Enter your personal hostname from your setup email — format:
yourclientid.doh.harborprivacy.com
05
Save and reboot your router — done
Compatible routers: Asus (AsusWRT firmware), Firewalla, eero. Not compatible: Xfinity, most TP-Link and Netgear consumer routers — these only support IP-based DNS, not hostnames. Use per-device setup instead — iPhone takes 30 seconds.
