Why Bother

Old connections keep pulling data after you stop using an app. Each one is a place your account information could leak from. Removing the ones you do not use shrinks your exposure.

Where to Look

01
Your bankSign in and look for Connected apps, Linked services, or Third-party access in your security or profile settings. Remove anything you do not recognize or use.
02
Plaid's portalPlaid lets you view and remove the apps connected through it at my.plaid.com.
03
The apps themselvesOpen each app's settings, unlink the bank account, and delete the account if you are done with it.
04
Payment appsCheck Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and similar for linked banks and cards. See payment apps privacy.

After You Revoke

  • Change your bank password if you ever shared it directly.
  • Watch your statements for a few weeks.
  • Ask the app to delete your data if it offers that.

A Way to Avoid This Next Time

Choose tools that never connect to your bank, such as ones that read forwarded alert emails. See Mint alternatives without a bank login.

Common Questions

How do I know which apps can access my bank?
Check your bank's connected apps list, then Plaid's portal, then each app you use.
Does deleting an app remove its access?
Not always. Revoke the connection first, then delete the app.
Is revoking access safe?
Yes. The app will stop updating until you link again.
Will the app keep my old data?
It may. Request deletion in its settings or privacy contact.
What if my bank has no connected apps list?
Contact the bank and ask which third parties have access, or change your credentials.
